Persuasive Design (PD) is a specialization within communication and ict studies, in which we emphasize the persuasive potential in applied technology when designed according to certain principles. In particular, we study the development of applications for computers, cell phones, PDAs, and similar devices.
In the words of B.J. Fogg, Persuasive Design (or captology, as he calls it) is defined as the activity that:
... focuses on the design, research and analysis of interactive computing products created for the purpose of changing people's attitudes or behavior.
The Center for Persuasive Design aims at:
- Excellence in applying Persuasive Technology according to sound ethical principles
- Excellence in developing and broadening the theoretical foundations of Persuasive Design
- Excellence in teaching Persuasive Design
